The Regency Theatre's sound system received a well-deserved and overdue facelift this August with all new cabling, a new state of the art digital mixing console, sturdy industry standard wireless body microphones, cordless and wired microphones along with a host of other necessary gear to bring the theatre's dated system into the 21st century. The walls were painted and diffusion panels are to be put up to reduce the amount of reflections and improve the acoustics of the Peter Aston auditorium.

The old sound booth was dropped to the floor from its previously elevated position to achieve optimum critical listening so the sound technician will now hear what the audience hears. Sebastian Frost, of the UK, an expert in his field, flew in to install the new speakers that are smaller, sleeker, but very powerful with the capability of reaching every seat equally which were precisely calibrated by Mr. Frost during his initial visit where he assessed the needs of the room.

A very, very special thanks to our hard working volunteers Marcus Hinsbey, Alex Romanenko, Christopher Russell, Bobby Stone, Erik Russell, Susan Baker, Olivia Dorsett, Paula Fingland, Anglela Hackman, and the board of directors for their efforts in the preparation and installation process of our wonderful new sound system.

'Broadway Baby' in concert with Dalia Feldman and guest artists on Saturday Sept 25

Born into a family that loved the performing arts, Dalia Feldman grew up just a short bus ride from the bright lights of Broadway, and celebrated countless childhood birthdays with trips to shows in Manhattan—gifts from her generous older brother.

Inspired by her love of the stage and blessed with a beautiful singing voice, Dalia shared her talent in many theatrical productions by the Freeport Players' Guild over the past several years. At the urging of friends and family, she decided to record an album of some of her favorite Broadway show tunes, the sale of which will benefit The Grand Bahama Performing Arts Society, which she founded in 2008 to support local performing arts students.

To celebrate the album’s release, a special concert will be held on Saturday evening, September 25, 2010 at 8 pm at the Regency Theatre. Dalia Feldman will perform songs from the new CD, including classic tunes from Cats, The King and I, Phantom of The Opera, Thoroughly Modern Millie, My Fair Lady, and other popular long-running Broadway shows.

Sharing the stage will be local guest artists plus an international singer, composer, and writer—Robert Edwin—whose diverse career has seen him performing in New York City’s Carnegie Hall, with jazz legend Duke Ellington, in NBC Christmas specials, and with opera star Jerome Hines. Edwin also has extensive teaching credentials and will be conducting a Master Voice Workshop for local students on Sunday, September 26th, together with Feldman—who also happened to be his student for seven years while growing up in New Jersey.

For Dalia Feldman, this extra-special concert will be like coming home in so many ways—by celebrating her long time love of Broadway, by helping the next generation explore their theatrical talents, and by making musical magic of her own on a date that brings her full circle: on her birthday—September 25th!
